The concept of journalistic ethics
Dr. Mohamed Lotfi Al-Sheimi, a faculty member at ACADEMIA International University AIU, will present a research paper titled, Ethical Values in the (Universal Declaration of Journalism Ethics) at the First Makarem Conference (Citizens of Makarem in Media) organized by the university remotely on Wednesday, September 11, corresponding to 8 Rabi' al-Awwal.
The research paper focused on the concept of professional ethics, the importance of studying ethics, the benefits of ethical charters, in addition to shedding light on who establishes media ethical charters. In another part, it discussed the main principles of ethical charters or standards of professional conduct.
Al-Sheimi expressed that the research issue of the study is to attempt to monitor, analyze, and describe the professional values and ethics of journalists included in the principles and items of the Universal Declaration of Journalism Ethics for Tunisian journalists dated June 12, 2019, in an attempt to provide a critical perspective on its materials to maximize its gains and achievements and highlight its negatives and shortcomings so that researchers interested in the field of media studies in general and studies and research related to professional ethics in particular can address them.
Al-Sheimi added that the descriptive study answered a main question: What are the ethical values mentioned in the declaration and what are its most important items? It relied on a survey method and used content analysis as a tool for data collection, in addition to a legal document analysis tool to monitor, analyze, and interpret the items of the declaration under study.
